The Fairy Tale Project:
Crafting Futures Beyond the Canvas
Every program at The Little Yellow Building stems from a simple wish: to give young artists the opportunities I yearned for at their age. Imagine an art project designed to equip young artists with the very skills needed for a professional career, extending far beyond traditional canvases. That's The Fairy Tale Project. This immersive journey has guided young minds through the entire production pipeline, from deeply researching public domain fairy tales to conceptualizing, scripting, and meticulously crafting each art panel. Under their supervision, every word was rewritten to their satisfaction, teaching them the critical skills of collaboration, time management, and clear communication. This November, join us in celebrating their incredible achievement as we launch a collection that showcases not only their artistic talent but their capacity to bring tangible projects to life, embodying our "Think Yellow" philosophy at every step.
The traditional path for young artists often feels narrow, limited to the idea of the "coveted gallery artist." But at The Little Yellow Building, we know art is so much more—it's woven into the fabric of nearly everything we see and touch, from the clothes we wear to the screens we interact with. The Fairy Tale Project was born from a desire to open our students' eyes to this vast creative landscape, giving them a tangible, real-world application for their artistic talents right now.
This wasn't just an art class; it was a deep dive into the production process. Students learned to navigate the Public Domain, choosing a fairy tale to retell or adapt. They then embarked on a journey of scripting, storyboarding, concept sketching, and iterative design, making crucial adjustments and edits along the way. Every art panel they created brought their unique vision to life. More than just creating beautiful images, they honed invaluable professional skills: working to deadlines, mastering time management, and learning to convey clear direction. Even to me, their instructor!
The result is a testament to their dedication and our "Think Yellow" philosophy: looking at a complex goal, breaking it down into its basic steps, and excelling at each one. We want every student to be immensely proud of what they've accomplished, realizing the true power and versatility of their artistic skills.

This one is simple: if you want us to do it again, buy one! Beyond giving the kids a tangible relic of their accomplishments and showcasing their art in a way most adults don't even experience, every project we do funds the next one. The Little Yellow Building is a privately owned business and does not receive government funding. Just like in the real world, your next creative endeavor is often funded by the sales of your current one. It's a cycle that depends on patrons who believe in our vision, believe in these young artists, and want projects like this to exist in the world. The public votes with their dollar, and that's a hard, but real, lesson.
