The Vision Behind Everything
When The Little Yellow Building first opened its doors, it wasn't just about art education; it was about building the kind of personal, engaged network of artists I always wished I'd had. Mississippi overflows with truly diverse talent, and my vision was to create low-to-no-cost opportunities for these incredible artists to connect and share their work. From the early days of building websites back in the Geocities era, I leveraged every tool available to bring that vision to life, creating databases of teaching artists, public art contacts, and weekly features.
After years of participating in and organizing exhibitions for others, I took a leap of faith during COVID, launching our first virtual exhibit. It was a silver lining in a difficult time, fostering connections and allowing us to curate powerful shows around themes of personal history, identity, and interpretation. We produced five exhibitions in total—three entirely virtual, and two hybrid shows hosted by the Mississippi School of the Arts—and they resonated incredibly well online.
However, the real-world impact didn't match the virtual attention, and my steadfast refusal to charge artists to participate began to take a significant financial toll. As you know, projects fund projects, and the financial strain, combined with the immense mental focus required, became unsustainable. It was a tough realization, but the kids had to come first. To ensure they could participate in the future, I needed to focus mentally and financially on making the studio classroom everything it deserved to be. This led to a difficult, but necessary, decision to step away from organizing new shows for a time, to prioritize what truly mattered.
That was three years ago. When a former web host unexpectedly raised prices, we lost the original exhibit pages. But the dedication, the meticulous paperwork, and the exhibition books remain. This new section isn't just an archive; it's a testament to that original vision, the incredible artists who shared their work, and the unwavering commitment to the core mission of The Little Yellow Building. We're rebuilding this space to honor those amazing shows that deserve to be seen, and to lay the groundwork for what's next.
Explore Our Past Exhibitions
The Little Yellow Building has proudly presented five impactful exhibitions, each a vibrant showcase of the diverse talent found across Mississippi. These shows fostered crucial connections and artistic expression, especially during challenging times.
From our boundary-pushing virtual showcases to collaborative hybrid events hosted with the Mississippi School of the Arts, every exhibition drew the spotlight to unique voices and compelling narratives. While they may not have garnered widespread media attention or significant foot traffic, they served as a platform for the artists involved, resonated deeply within the creative community, and were widely viewed online.
This dedicated archive ensures these remarkable artists continue to be seen and appreciated. We invite you to delve into each show, discover a featured artist, and experience the compelling works that made these exhibitions so special.

Looking Ahead
While this virtual space celebrates our past exhibitions, the vision for cultivating and elevating Mississippi artists is a perpetual one. Three years ago, I stepped back from the public eye and social media to recover from the immense demands of building these initiatives. Though that period has been one of quiet rebuilding, the drive to "do more" never truly fades.
Behind the scenes, the work has been constant: I'm always writing, revising, and meticulously building towards a future where The Little Yellow Building can once again support significant exhibition opportunities. This isn't a race; it's a journey to build something with the structural integrity and sustainability to last. Nothing is ever guaranteed, but this long-term vision is too important to rush. When the time is right and the foundations are truly solid, we'll be ready to discuss how those who believe in this mission can help bring these plans to life.
Thank you for diving into the captivating world of Mississippi art.
