Son House
Son House was born near Lyon, Mississippi, in 1902; some say give or take a few years.
In the '30s, House recorded his first records with the Paramount label, although the depression crashed record sales like many others.
Like many other artists of the era, he mainly played for dances and parties at the local sharecroppers' houses.
He would become a heavy influence on two other Blues legends, Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters.
In 1942 House and many others were invited for a study for the Fisk University of Congress, which would be his last recording in Mississippi.
In 1961 a group of Blues lovers tracked House down in retirement and convinced him to let them manage his comeback career, booking him as the closing act at festivals. His trance-like performances and aggressive guitar style took Son House to international distinction.
House performed until his death in 1976.
